A joint patrol between Fandroakando, the VOI, the Chief of the forest and environment (CEF) and communal police was conducted in order to inspect illegal clearing and planting in the forest. The team first visited the areas of the forest which had been violated, and then proceeded to arrest nine individuals in the area of Navana.

Of the nine individuals arrested, one was brought before the court and placed in custody pending his indictment date. On the recommendation of the CEF, the VOI will apply the DINA (local law) to the other eight offenders. Letters of commitment for the application of Dina and expulsion from the Farankaraina classified forest were sent to them by the CEF Maroantsetra.
